Two-level Adaptive Mesh Movement Algorithms for Fsi-computations

چکیده
In this paper, we discuss procedures for computing the mesh movement in staggered FSI-simulations. The mesh movement is divided into a global and a local level. The global level is based on the solution of an incremental linear-elastic solid model using the structure movement as Dirichlet boundary conditions, and error estimates to guide the node relocation in the interior of the uid domain. The local level, which is executed in parallel, is based on transsnite interpolation. A benchmark example studying the scalability of the total FSI-simulation is presented.

Fully discrete error estimation for a quasi-Newtonian fluid-structure interaction problem
Fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems have various applications in engineering and biology, where two dynamics, fluid flow and deformable structure, are considered in one system. Simulations of blood flow, tidal current turbines and gas explosions in pipelines are some well-known applications in this research area [2, 6, 9, 16, 20, 21]. FSI problems concern the mutual influence between two...
متن کاملAn Eulerian approach to uid–structure interaction and goal-oriented mesh adaptation
We propose an Eulerian framework for modelling uid–structure interaction (FSI) of incompressible uids and elastic structures. The model is based on an Eulerian approach for describing structural dynamics. This is achieved by tracking the movement of the initial positions of all ‘material’ points. In this approach the displacement appears as a primary variable in an Eulerian framework. Our appro...
متن کاملExtended ALE Method for fluid-structure interaction problems with large structural displacements
Standard Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) methods for the simulation of fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems fail due to excessive mesh deformations when the structural displacement is large. We propose a method that successfully deals with this problem, keeping the same mesh connectivity while enforcing mesh alignment with the structure. The proposed Extended ALE Method relies on a va...
متن کاملA stable FSI algorithm for light rigid bodies in compressible flow
In this article we describe a stable partitioned algorithm that overcomes the added mass instability arising in fluidstructure interactions of light rigid bodies and inviscid compressible flow. The new algorithm is stable even for bodies with zero mass and zero moments of inertia. The approach is based on a local characteristic projection of the force on the rigid body and is a natural extensio...
متن کاملSolvers for large-displacement fluid–structure interaction problems: segregated versus monolithic approaches
We compare the relative performance of monolithic and segregated (partitioned) solvers for largedisplacement fluid–structure interaction (FSI) problems within the framework of oomphlib, the object-oriented multi-physics finite-element library, available as open-source software at http://www.oomph-lib.org. Monolithic solvers are widely acknowledged to be more robust than their segregated counter...
